Set of 8 Sterling Silver Butt Markers / Novelty Shot Glasses for Game Shooting, dated 2000
Price: £800
Hallmarked Birmingham in 2000 by Hukin & Heath, this charming set of 8 sterling silver & glass novelty shot glasses, are modelled as 12-bore shotgun cartridges, and are also numbered on the bottom from 1-8 so that they can be used as butt markers on game shooting days.
Each ‘One Shot’ butt marker is made of clear glass with threaded silver caps; measuring 7.5cm in height, with a 2.4cm diameter to the top and 2.0cm to the bottom. The complete set are neatly housed in a subdivided, green fabric lined, black hide case, on a button clasp.
Very good neo-vintage condition, with wear consistent with age and use.
N.B. Traditionally, numbered pegs are randomly inserted into a sheath, number side down. Each shooter (“gun”) then takes their turn to randomly draw a peg, with the revealed number denoting the actual shooting position (“butt”) for the first drive.
Silver butt markers, antique and modern, are becoming increasingly collectable amongst shooting enthusiasts, as well as collectors of silver, curios and Edwardiana.
Needless to say, Cally & Cross does not recommend taking shots whilst shooting!
