A signed limited-edition gelatin silver print by American photographer Erica Lennard, internationally recognised for her atmospheric black-and-white studies of gardens, architecture and landscape.
Created in 1979, Campaigne, Arbor belongs to Lennard’s important late-1970s period as her work moved from fashion photography towards the contemplative garden and landscape imagery for which she became particularly known. The receding arbor creates a powerful architectural rhythm, with alternating bands of light and shadow transforming the garden structure into an almost abstract composition.
Lennard’s photographs are represented in major collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Centre Pompidou, Paris, and Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
The reverse retains a label from New York law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell, indicating previous corporate ownership/display.
Signed lower right and numbered 3/5. Presented with ultraviolet-filtering acrylic glazing.
Condition: Good vintage condition overall. Close inspection under certain lighting reveals a number of faint horizontal surface lines within the print. These are primarily visible at acute viewing angles and are not materially distracting during normal display.
