Clemens Briels “The Corporate Sense” Limited Edition Ceramic, 62/100, 2002

Price: £POA

A striking limited-edition ceramic artwork by Dutch artist Clemens Briels (b. 1946), produced in 2002 by Schoonhoven Keramiek for SNS Financial Markets.

The Corporate Sense translates Briels’ highly distinctive visual language — which he terms “Antipodism” — into three dimensions. Saturated colour, expressive figures and bold geometric motifs extend around the curved ceramic surface, creating a composition that changes according to viewpoint.

The work dates from a significant year in Briels’ career. In 2002 he was appointed Official Artist of the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games, for which he created the official poster. His work extends across painting, sculpture, ceramics, glass and design and has been exhibited internationally.

This example is numbered 62/100 and retains its original bespoke wooden presentation case, boldly hand-painted with the Briels name. The underside carries the Schoonhoven Keramiek mark together with Briels’ signature and inscriptions relating to the edition, SNS Financial Markets and the 2002 Winter Olympics.

A particularly complete example combining contemporary art, ceramic design and corporate patronage.
