Pierre-Marie Brisson — ‘Itinéraire’, Original Carborundum Etching, 1985
Price: £POA
An original, signed and numbered carborundum etching by French contemporary artist Pierre-Marie Brisson (b. 1955), combining richly textured surfaces, extensive embossing and enigmatic architectural forms.
Created in 1985, Itinéraire reflects Brisson’s enduring fascination with archaeology, ancient civilisations and Etruscan art. Its earth-coloured surfaces, geometric divisions and restrained interventions of red, blue, white and black evoke the appearance of an excavated architectural fragment.
Brisson began developing his carborundum printmaking techniques at Atelier Pasnic, Paris, in 1979. This work dates from an important period in his developing international career, coinciding with his first solo exhibition at Franklin Bowles Gallery in San Francisco.
Printed on substantial handmade Moulin de Larroque paper, the work possesses an almost sculptural physicality. Its deeply impressed forms, visible fibres and pronounced deckled edges make the paper itself an integral part of the composition.
This impression is signed and numbered 18/75. Previously framed by The Railings Gallery in Marylebone, London, it has recently been professionally remounted, retaining its vintage metallic frame and incorporating new conservation-quality materials and AR-70 anti-reflective glazing.
