DESCRIPTION
A rare vintage Rolex passport and document holder dating from around the 1950s–1960s, produced in the marque’s characteristic deep green and distinguished by an unusually elaborate embossed design.
The cover combines imagery associated with timekeeping, travel and Switzerland: a large sundial with Roman numerals, Swiss emblems, a curved wristwatch strap and the word GENEVA, with two small gilt Rolex coronets providing the only flashes of colour.
Far removed from the restrained accessories associated with modern Rolex, the holder reflects an earlier and more decorative visual language. It forms part of the wider material culture surrounding vintage Rolex ownership, alongside period boxes, guarantees, catalogues and dealer ephemera, but is especially appealing as an object of design in its own right.
The green leather exterior retains strong colour and crisp embossed detail, while the textile-lined interior remains very well preserved.
