This magnificent work, inspired by a 1968 photograph, was originally a monochromatic oil on canvas (part of the Swiss Alps series), and was wonderfully re-created in fine detail in 2021, thanks to the use of a 5-colour hybrid printing technique.
The intricate gradation and depth emphasize the immense scale and striking texture of the mountain range, reflecting Richter’s approach to landscape as a fusion of realism and abstraction. The sharp contrasts and clarity of the composition capture the quiet strength of the mountains, immersing the viewer in their expansive and formidable presence.
